What I’m Watching Next

Now that House of the Dragon and Rings of Power are over, I’m looking for new things to watch. Luckily a lot of interesting shows and movies have been released recently that I’m excited to explore. I wanted to compile a list some of those releases that I’m most excited for right now.

The last time I shared a watchlist, was in the early days of the blog, and I had already seen the media I was discussing. This time, I’ll be sharing things I hope to see. For the sake of brevity, this list will not include movies that are or will be in theaters, like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, or shows I’m already watching, like Abbott Elementary.

Rosaline | Hulu

“A comedic retelling of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” told from the point of view of Romeo’s jilted ex, Rosaline, the woman Romeo first claims to love before he falls for Juliet.”

Anyone who knows me knows “Romeo and Juliet” is not my favorite Shakespearen drama. But I find retellings super interesting and this one looks like it will be just that. The trailer gave me major Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are Dead or Ophelia vibes, where the retelling follows a “side” character and operates outside the action of the play.

Werewolf by Night | Disney+

“On a dark and sombre night, a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader; the attendees are thrust into a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic.”

This is one of the newer Marvel releases. It seems to be introducing a section of Marvel storylines that deviate from the typical superhero plots we’ve seen dominate the MCU. I don’t really know what to expect with this one given the vague description and trailer, but it’s only an hour long and viewers seemed to really enjoy it.

School for Good and Evil | Netflix

“Best friends Sophie and Agatha find themselves on opposing sides of an epic battle when they’re swept away into an enchanted school where aspiring heroes and villains are trained to protect the balance between good and evil.”

Now this is based on a children’s book series that I haven’t read but the idea of having the heroes and villains behind each fairytale being trained at the same school seems super intriguing.

Andor | Disney+

“The story of Rebel spy Cassian Andor’s formative years of the Rebellion and his difficult missions for the cause.”

I’ll be upfront, of all the fandoms and franchises I engage in I am the least versed in Star Wars. While I thoroughly enjoy it and have seen all the movies, the timeline is jumbled in my head and I’d fail to answer any question regarding lore. That being said, one chapter of Star Wars I’ve was Star Wars: Rogue One. So when I found out one of my beloved Rogue One characters was getting their own series I was super excited.

Entergalactic | Netflix

“Ambitious artist Jabari attempts to balance success and love after he moves into his dream Manhattan apartment and falls for his next-door neighbor.”

The trailer really drew me in for this one. I first saw it a few months ago and liked how it was animated, the contemporary setting, and the dynamic the different characters have with each other and the city. I’ve heard good things about it, so hopefully I enjoy it too.

Catherine Called Birdy | Amazon Prime

“In medieval England, the daughter of a financially destitute Lord thwarts her father’s plans to marry her off to a wealthy suitor. When the most vile suitor arrives, her parent’s love for her is tested.”

Honestly, this just looks like a fun movie. It’s also based on a children’s book that’s widely loved. Though I can’t remember if I actually finished this as a child, or merely coveted it at the Scholastic Book Fair. 😅😂

Derry Girls (Season 3) | Netflix

“This candid, family-centred comedy and coming-of-age story `Derry Girls’ follows 16-year-old Erin and her friends as they grow up in a world of armed police in armoured Land Rovers and British Army check points in the 1990s of Northern Ireland. Written by `Being Human’ screenwriter Lisa McGee, the story is set during the time of The Troubles. Teenage life goes on despite the bleak circumstances, and Erin is more concerned about her boy crush not knowing that she exists, or her nosey cousin meddling with her life. `Derry Girls’ is a reminder that the teenagers of Northern Ireland dealt with the same growing pains as the rest of the world.”

Yes, you read that right! Season 3 of Derry Girls has officially been released on Netflix! I’ve been waiting for it to be available in the U.S. since the series aired back in Spring. While it makes me sad that this will be the last season, I adore Derry Girls and all the antics they get up to.

The Witcher (Season 2) | Netflix

“The witcher Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world in which people often prove more wicked than beasts.”

This is a bit painful to admit since this aired a while ago, but I still haven’t seen season two of The Witcher. Although I loved season one, and rewatched many scenes, I just never picked up season two for some reason. Now I hope to remedy that and be reunited with characters I’ve missed, especially Yennefer, Ciri, and Dandelion. Surprisingly, I’ve managed to avoid any significant spoilers despite the clips and memes I’ve come across so I’m do not even know what to expect.

Well that’s all for now. Hoping this watchlist turns out to be a success and I find some new favorites.
