Roaming In…Brooklyn: Grand Army Plaza

In an effort to get out of the house last week I decided to head over to one of my favorite parts of Brooklyn.

This year I want to try and make an effort to do more things on a whim. Instead of waiting for a special occasion to visit a place I like or try something out, I want to just do it when Iโ€™m free. So thatโ€™s exactly what I did when I found myself with a free afternoon and the desire to be in an open area.

My mom and I drove over to the northern entrance of Prospect Park to walk around and maybe stop to visit a few sites. I was quickly drawn into the Brooklyn Museum when I noticed that the Brooklyn Pop-up was taking place that weekend.

The pop-up shop was super fun. Most of the small businesses had apparel, jewelry, or body products. But there were some different tables, like a basket weaver, candle business, and a chocolate company. Everyone was super friendly, and I had a great time learning about how and why some of them started their businesses. I donโ€™t usually have great luck catching events like these, so I was just enjoying being there.

After checking out the tables and picking up a few goodies, we headed towards the Brooklyn Public Library. I am obsessed with the Grand Army Plaza branch (aka the Central Branch). Itโ€™s beautiful inside and out!

I have such fond memories of this branch. From getting my first library card at three to summer reading challenges to spending the day there to complete group projects. My favorite place in the building is definitely the Youth Wing, which is probably a result of spending so much time there growing up. But now I canโ€™t go without stopping by and at least checking it out.

After checking out the latest with the Young Adult and New Adult books in the Youth Wing, we headed upstairs to see some historical books before leaving. Then right before heading home, we managed to catch the very end of the farmerโ€™s market. While my mom perused the honey stall, I took some time to admire Grand Army Plaza which luckily wasnโ€™t too crowded. Being outside and getting some fresh air in a space outside of my normal routine not only left its mark on my day but my entire week. So Iโ€™d say this little experiment was a success! ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜Œ
