Kindle TBR

If you know me, you know I love books. I enjoy reading both physical and ebooks. While I use both pretty regularly, I do have a problem with reading books I own less often than those I don’t own. I guess that makes sense since I have to return the others, but I have been trying to be more conscientious about using what I have before buying new things so I decided to take a look through my unread ebooks.

I got my Kindle a little over a year ago as a Christmas gift and I’ve really enjoyed it. But I’ve been using the Kindle mobile and desktop apps for a few years. I use it mostly to get library books for convenience. In college, it was much easier to quickly download books and always have them on me without having to worry about getting fines if I return the books late. It also made commuting easier since I didn’t end up carrying extra books in my bag that I might not get to read because I didn’t have time during the day. I also find that sometimes you can get the ebook version from the library faster than a physical version.

In terms of books I own, I am pretty picky about what ebooks I’ll buy. I can’t really return it the same way as a physical book. And with my schedule and reading pace I would miss the window to return the book. The thought of having a book I dislike stuck on my device is just annoying. Which is another reason I like to get my ebooks from the library instead. When I do get ebooks, I try to get them on sale. The Kindle store deals daily and since my Kindle is linked to my GoodReads account sometimes I get an email if a book I want to read goes on sale. Plus there are deals from other stores too that let you get the ePub version (it just won’t sync on Kindle between your devices).

Since I’ve begun to build my collection of ebooks I wanted to make a list of the books I own that I want to read next. This doesn’t include my library books though. I always find it fun to see people go over their tbr or book hauls so I thought I would do one. 😌 Here are some books on my Kindle that I am looking to read. 📖

The Wrath and the Dawn Short Stories by Renee Adhieh

[Prices: Moth and flame is $1.99, The Crown & the Arrow and The Mirror and the Maze are $0]

These novellas take place before, during, and after the first book in the series. Unlike the other two, the novella that is chronologically first focuses on characters other than the two main leads. These are short with all three books being 30 pages or less. I read The Crown & the Arrow but I actually don’t think it added a lot to the story. However, I still want to read the other two and see where they take the story before I move on to the second book.

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi

[Price: $9.99 purchased for $2.99]

This is the second book in the Shatter Me series. It has elements of dystopian and science fiction as well as other components of young adult books. The writing style does take some getting used to though so it is not for everyone. This is a well loved series so I am hoping I like it too. The main character will definitely need to grow over the course of the series. My biggest hope for this installment in the series is for the main character to develop a healthier self-image than she had in the first book. Due to her life experiences she developed a seriously low self-esteem and which made some parts hard to read. But while reading I gathered that she would be rebuilding herself over the course of the series.

Sky in the deep by Adrienne Young

[Price: $2.99]

I’ve been meaning to read this novel since 2019 and have heard many great things. The main character is a Viking warrior who gets captured by the enemy and ends up reuniting with her brother who she thought died 5 years earlier. Adrienne Young is an author I’ve been wanting to read because she has written a lot of books that I am interested in. This book is technically a stand alone, but it has a companion novel as well. I can’t wait to dive into this book!

A Mind for Numbers by Barbara Oakley

[Price: $13.99 but purchased on sale for $1.99]

I’ve become increasingly interested in learning habits and techniques. This is a book I’ve been wanting to read that goes over effective learning techniques relevant to math and science. And since Dr. Oakley uses personal experiences struggling in school and ones students use. There is also discussion of the science behind memory, learning, and other processes. Naturally, I think this will be a great book to read. This is also a companion to a free Coursera course called “Learning How to Learn” which sounds interesting and I might check out later.

What books are you looking forward to reading? Do you enjoy reading e-books?
